What is Google SERPs

When researching search engine optimization (SEO), you will find many terms and appreciations. In this post, we will cover one that you may see a lot, SERPs. What are Google SERPs? Tune in to find out. 

Search Engine Results Pages (“SERPs”) are Google’s response to someone’s search query. SERPs include organic results, paid ads, featured snippets, images, locations, and video results. Dumb downed, SERPs are what you see when you search for something on Google. 

Let’s look at an example of SERPs.

We will start by searching the term “How to Boost SEO.”

The first thing you will usually see is a paid ad from a business that has targeted those keywords. Those paid ads will be labeled with “Ad” in front of them, as the image shows above.

Next, you might see a breakdown or list of items from a source that has properly indexed their page for SERPs. Next, you will see a list of references that Google believes to be relevant and authoritative. The whole reason you optimize your site for SEO and build backlinks is to appear here. 

If you search for a provider, company, brand, or location near you, you might even see Google’s Business recommendations. They look like this:

In this case, we typed “Marketing Agencies Near Me.” 

To help rank in these locations, you will need to optimize your site for locations. Additionally, you will need to own, update, and maintain a Google My Business (GMB) profile. These profiles are a MUST, especially for local SEO optimization. The Google My Business tool helps turn people who find you on Google Search and Maps into new customers. A GMB profile also allows you to add important information such as contact information, service locations, special notifications, posts on Google, announcements, showcasing awards, gaining reviews, and more!

Having a GMB profile is needed whether your business is virtual or brick and mortar. 

Google SERPs will also show video and product results. For example, if we search “How to make banana bread,” we will find product pages with reviews. In this case, it links to recipe sites.

As you can see, there are many elements to search engine results pages. We didn’t even show the Video, News, Shopping, and Image pages.
